Porto Alegre is a small city located in the southern portion of Brazil. The city has low tourism and business ratings that often range from between 50 and 150 each. Porto Alegre is only available in AirTycoonOnline 2.

Airport

The default airport here is Salgado Filho International Airport (POA).

Trivia

The airport is named after the Senator and first Minister of the Brazilian Air Force Joaquim Pedro Salgado Filho on October 12, 1951. Salgado died in 1950 after getting involved in an air accident while departing from Porto Alegre.

Strategy

Porto Alegre is one of many very unpopular cities in the game due to its low ratings. This makes the city virtually competition-free. Beginners can choose to start here but it is not highly recommended as the low ratings will limit how fast an airline based in this city will grow. The city is also in a moderately isolated location in South America as flights can usually only can be made to nearby cities like Sao Paulo, Punta Arenas and Bogota. Routes to cities in North America require long ranged planes, which are expensive and are usually not worth it for a city that has such low ratings. There are also very few cities to link to towards the south of the small city. In addition, Porto Alegre cannot sustain any form of competition so players should consider suspending routes should the need arises. During an economic crisis, both ratings can fall to levels below 50. At this point, all routes, cargo and/or passenger, should be closed in order to minimise depreciation during this tough period.

Salgado Filho International Airport is usually empty for the entire course of the game. This also makes any additional airports in the game futile due to the lack of demand for slots in the city. Hence, players should never consider building or buying airports in this city as the credits are better spent elsewhere.

When flying to large cities, small to medium capacity planes like the Airbus A310, Boeing 707 and the Tupolev Tu-204 are recommended. Flights to other small or medium sized cities should use cheap, small capacity planes like the Embraer E-Jet, Bombardier CSeries and the Sukhoi Superjet 100. Large capacity planes should be avoided as the number of travelers and cargo going in and out of this city will be limited and the profits generated would not be able to cover the high depreciation of such expensive aircraft.
