Lilongwe is a small sized city located in Malawi. It is the capital and the largest city in the country. The city has low business and tourism ratings that range from between 50 and 150 each.

Airport[]

The default airport here is Lilongwe International Airport (LLW).

Strategy[]

Lilongwe is often devoid of scheduled flights by many airlines primarily due to its low ratings which limits profits significantly. As a result, the city cannot sustain any competition although there is virtually none. Lilongwe is also in a rather isolated location as limited flights can be made to cities in Africa itself (e.g. Johannesburg, Cape Town and Monrovia), let alone in other continents. While there are many cities nearby which can also be linked to Lilongwe, many of these cities are small sized cities with very low ratings. Such routes are not recommended and should be avoided if possible. Beginners are advised to stay away from Lilongwe as the low ratings will make it very difficult for an airline to gain momentum to expand in the future.

Lilongwe International Airport is often empty and will never get upgraded beyond its initial status of level 2 due to virtually no demand for slots. Players should never consider buying this airport from the national government as there are almost no profits to collect from the ownership of Lilongwe International Airport. The same advice applies to any secondary or tertiary airports that players plan to build as the zero demand makes such airports a useless investment that gives virtually no returns.

Large capacity and expensive aircraft are not recommended and should be avoided as the low ratings in the city does not justify its use due to the planes having high depreciation rates. For flights to large cities, medium capacity planes such as the Airbus A310, Boeing 757 and the Douglas DC-8 are recommended options. Small capacity planes are best used for flights to all other small or medium sized cities. Examples include the Boeing 737, Bombardier CRJ Family and the Fokker F-Series.
