Strategy
Houston is a relatively contested city, owing in part to its high ratings. Because of this, it's not the best idea to start here.The city is is an excellent location in North America with easy connections to cities such as Denver, New York, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, etc. The city can sustain heavy competiton, however monopoly routes to medium sized cities (Boston, Detroit, Seattle, etc.) are more profitable.
George Bush Intercontinetal Airport will usually achieve maximum slot usage within 20 to 25 years into the game. For this reason, it is an exellent idea to buy the airport from the national government. Additional airports are risky as they could go to Level 7 or 8 but could also be stuck at Level 4 or 3. For this reason, carefully consider building additional airports here.
Large planes such as the Boeing 747, Airbus A380 and McDonnell Douglas MD-11 are best for routes to majro cities. Routes to smaller cities are better served by planes such as the Boeing 767, Airbus A320 and McDonnell Douglas DC-10. Small planes are not recommended as two are required to fill a route, thus depreciating value. The same is true of cargo routes.
