Hong Kong is a large city on the southern coast of China. It has high tourism and business ratings which regularly exceed 300 and above. Sometimes, ratings above 400 are also possible. The tourism ratings are often higher than the business ratings.

Airport

The default airport here is Hong Kong International Airport (HKG).

Trivia

In real life, the name "Hong Kong International Airport" was used the infamous Kai Tak Airport . The airport is a very demanding place for pilots to land and take off from due to the airport's close proximity with nearby structures and having a tall hill right in front one of the runways. Aircraft flying into Kai Tak often flew very close to the buildings below. In 1998, Kai Tak was formally closed as a new airport, which took the name "Hong Kong International Airport" and IATA code from Kai Tak, was built and elimitmated all of the challenges above.

Strategy

Hong Kong's high ratings makes this place a very popular city for many players. Due to this, competition from Hong Kong can get fierce and beginners are recommended to start someplace else. The city can, however, sustain intense competition between airlines, but it is best to close routes to Hong Kong if a player finds themselves on the losing side. The city is in a slightly isolated position in East Asia. While routes to cities in Asia (e.g. Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai), Oceania (e.g. Sydney and Nadi) and Europe (e.g. Rome and London) are possible, there are few cities to link to in the east. The best routes out of Hong Kong are often the monopolised routes to medium sized cities (e.g. Fukuoka, Cebu and Melbourne) as these routes often make more money than routes to large cities with heavy competition. With suitable long range aircraft, flights to North Americian cities (e.g. Los Angeles and Toronto) are possible but may also be subject to competition from other airlines.

Hong Kong International Airport often will attain maximum slot capacity within 10 to 15 years into the game. This makes the city in need of a second airport, which can either be built by another player or the national government, by then. Second airports also will usually attain a status beyond a level 6 or 7 by the end of the game due to the city's immense popularity with players. Thus, a player should act fast to build additional airports in Hong Kong as soon as they are able to. Purchasing the principal airport from the national government is also recommended to obtain the massive profits available from Hong Kong International Airport.

Like many major cities, the best aircraft for both passenger and cargo routes should have a high satisfaction and a large capacity when flying to other large cities or routes with a lot of competitors. Examples include the Airbus A380, Boeing 747 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11. For routes to small or medium sized cities, medium capacity aircraft are recommended. These aircraft include the Boeing 767, Airbus A310 and the Lockheed L-1011. Small capacity planes should be avoided as the Hong Kong's huge number of travelers and cargo can overwhelm the tiny capacity of the planes. This will result in the need of multiple planes which will lead to increased depreciation.
