Guatemala City is a small to medium city located in the Central American city of Guatemala. It is the capital and largest city in the country. The city has moderate business ratings that range from between 100 and 200. Tourism ratings are lower and range from between 50 and 150.
The default airport here is La Aurora International Airport (GUA).
Guatemala City is a relatively favoured city for airlines compared to other Central American cities due to its higher ratings, especially cargo routes. Competition in this city is light, but the city may face problems trying to sustain it. Beginners aiming to start passenger operations are advised not to start here, but those wishing to operate cargo flights are advised to start here if they intend to. To make profitable and sustainable operations, routes to large cities in North America (e.g. New York, Atlanta and San Francisco) and South America (e.g. Santiago, Lima and Buenos Aires) should be made and its location can be taken advantage of.
La Aurora International Airport will usually not upgrade beyond its initial status of level 2. This makes the airport a poor choice for purchase when a player intends own a national airport. The lack of demand for slots also makes second (or third) airports unnecessary. Hence, airlines should never consider building additional airports in this city.
For flights to large cities, medium capacity planes are recommended. Great examples include the Airbus A310, Lockheed L-1011 and the Boeing 787. Flights to small and medium sized cities are not advised but ideal planes to fly such routes are the small capacity planes like the Boeing 737, Airbus A320 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-90. Large planes are not advised as the excess room will make no money and such aircraft will come with large maintenance expenses that the meagre profits from routes out of Guatemala City may not be able to handle. This leads to increased depreciation.
