Guangzhou is a large city on the southern coast of China. It has moderate tourism and business ratings which the often exceed 250 and above. In the 2000s, the ratings have been observed to exceed 500. The tourism ratings are often lower than the business ratings.

Airport

The default airport here is Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN).

Trivia

“Baiyun” means “white clouds” in Chinese, and refers to Baiyun Mountain near the airport. The new airport opened on August 5, 2004, replacing the 72-year-old previous, identically named Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (now closed). The new airport is 28 kilometres from downtown Guangzhou.

Strategy

Guangzhou's high ratings makes this place a very popular city for many players in the late game. However, most players start, instead, in the infamous and nearby city of Hong Kong. Therefore, any fierce competition in Guangzhou are sustainable and beginners are recommended to start here. It is best to close routes to and from Guangzhou if a player find themselves on the losing side of a competition. The city is in a slightly isolated position in East Asia. While routes to cities in Asia (e.g. Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai), Oceania (e.g. Sydney and Nadi) and Europe (e.g. Rome, Luxembourg and London) are possible, there are fewer cities to link to in the east. Often, the best routes out of Guangzhou are the monopolised routes to medium sized cities (e.g. Fukuoka and Melbourne) as these routes often make more money than routes to large sized cities with heavy competition. With suitable long range aircraft, flights to North American cities (e.g. Los Angeles and Vancouver) are possible, but may also be subject to competition from other airlines.

Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport often will attain maximum slot capacity within 20 to 25 years into the game. The city will be in need of a second airport, which can either be built by a player or by the national government, by then. Second airports also will usually attain a status beyond a level 5 or 6 by the end of the game due to the city's popularity with players. Since the early bird catches the worm, a player should act fast to buy/build additional airports in Guangzhou as soon as they are able to. Purchasing the principal airport from the national government is also recommended to obtain the massive profits available from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.

Like many major cities, the best aircraft for both passenger and cargo routes should have a high satisfaction and a large capacity when flying to other large cities or routes with a lot of competitors. Examples include the Airbus A380Boeing 747, the Boeing 777 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11. For routes to small and medium sized cities, medium capacity aircraft are recommended. These aircraft include the Boeing 767Airbus A330 and the Lockheed L-1011. Small capacity planes like Boeing 737, CRJ Family and Airbus A320 should be used only when flying to cities with very low ratings (e.g. Pyongyang, Brunei, Davao City and Phnom Penh)

  • Large capacity cargo planes in and out of this city is a not popular option with many players, but it can make huge sums of money with Guangzhou.
