Guangzhou's high ratings make this place a very popular city for many players in the late game.This city is very useful when running cargo routes. However, most players start, instead, in the famous and nearby city of Hong Kong. Therefore, any fierce competition in Guangzhou is sustainable and beginners are recommended to start here. It is best to close routes to and from Guangzhou if a player finds themselves on the losing side of competition. The city is in a slightly isolated position in East Asia. While routes to cities in Asia (e.g. Kuala Lumpur and Shanghai), Oceania (e.g. Sydney and Nadi) and Europe (e.g. Rome, Luxembourg, and London) are possible, there are fewer cities to link to in the east. Often, the best routes out of Guangzhou are the monopolized routes to medium-sized cities (e.g. Fukuoka and Melbourne) as these routes often make more money than routes to large-sized cities with heavy competition. With suitable long-range aircraft, flights to North American cities (e.g. Los Angeles and Vancouver) are possible, but may also be subject to competition from other airlines.
Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport often will attain maximum slot capacity within 20 to 25 years into the game. The city will be in need of a second airport, which can either be built by a player or by the national government, by then. Second airports also will usually attain a status beyond a level 5 or 6 by the end of the game due to the city's popularity with players. Since the early bird catches the worm, a player should act fast to buy/build additional airports in Guangzhou as soon as they are able to. Because Guangzhou has high business rates, using this as a cargo hub is strongly recommended. You should use large capacity to avoid adding extra planes on routes because this can cause more depreciation. Making routes from Guangzhou to Kuala Lumpur or London can make large amount of profit.
Like many major cities, the best aircraft for both passenger and cargo routes should have high satisfaction and a large capacity when flying to other large cities or routes with a lot of competitors. Examples include the Airbus A380, Boeing 747, the Boeing 777 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11. For routes to small and medium-sized cities, medium-capacity aircraft is recommended.
