Frankfurt is a large city located in Germany. As the most important city in the country, it has very high business and tourism ratings that often exceed 300 or more each. The business ratings are often higher than the tourism ratings.

Airport

The default airport here is Frankfurt am Main Airport (FRA).

Trivia

The airport the largest airport in Germany with an area of 4,942 acres (7.722 sq mi) of land and features two passenger terminals with a capacity of approximately 65 million passengers per year, four runways and extensive logistics and maintenance facilities.

Strategy

Frankfurt's high business ratings makes this city a very good spot to run cargo operations, although most players prefer to utilise the high tourism ratings to run passenger operations. The city is in a very strategic location in western Europe that allows it to connect to cities in North America (e.g. New York and Toronto), Asia (e.g. Tokyo and Singapore), South America (e.g. Sao Paulo and Santiago) and Africa (e.g. Monrovia and Cape Town). Due to it's huge popularity among players, competition can be extreme. Although the city can sustain fierce competition, it is better to avoid it if possible. Beginners are advised not to open a hub here as they may have trouble dealing with competition compared to more experienced players. Usually the best routes, passenger or cargo, out of this city are the monopolised flights to medium sized cities (e.g. Warszawa, Lisbon, Fukuoka and Tampa).

Frankfurt am Main Airport will usually attain maximum slot usage within 10 to 15 years into the game or earlier. This makes a second airport (sometimes a third) very much in need as soon as the principal airport can no longer meet the demand for slots. Hence, a player should consider building an airport in this city as soon as he/she is able to as additional airports can attain high levels of 6 or 7 before the game ends. Purchase of the national airport is also recommended as there are massive profits available in the city.

Like other major cities, the best planes are usually the ones with a high satisfaction and large capacity. For cargo and passenger routes to large cities, aircraft like the Airbus A380, Boeing 747, McDonnell Douglas MD-11 and the Ilyushin IL-96 are all suitable examples. Flights to small and medium sized cities should use medium capacity planes which include the Boeing 767, Airbus A300, Lockheed L-1011 and the Boeing 757. Small capacity planes should be avoided in this city unless flying in from cities with ratings less than 100. This is to minimise the number of planes needed on the route and, hence, reduce depreciation.
