Dusseldorf is a medium to large city located in Germany. As an international trade and finance centre, it boasts high tourism and business ratings that frequently range from between 200 until 300. Often the business ratings are slightly higher than the tourism ratings. Dusseldorf is one of the few cities to receive the "Rising Tour Destination" News Report and its ratings will increase greatly shortly afterwards. This city is only available in Air Tycoon Online 2.

Airport

The default airport here is Dusseldorf Airport (DUS).

Strategy

Dusseldorf is moderately popular with players due to its high ratings. But, it isn't wildly popular as a starting hub as most players usually opt for nearby Frankfurt or Munich and also due to the fact that the initial ratings are low as both business and tourism stays below 150 at the start of the game. As the news report comes in and the ratings grow, airlines will begin to make this place a desired destination and competition will begin to take hold. Players need not worry too much as the intensity of the competition is usually mild and the city can sustain it, for both cargo and passenger operations. Dusseldorf is also strategically located in Europe as many profitable routes can be made to cities in Europe itself (e.g. London and Moscow), Asia (e.g. Kuwait and New Delhi), Africa (e.g. Lagos and Cape Town) and North America (e.g. New York and Denver). Because the benefits outweigh any potential downsides, the city is a perfect place for beginners as the lack of stiff competition at the start gives a budding airline time to grow and be prepared to face competitors when the time comes.

Dusseldorf Airport usually will obtain maximum slot usage, but this often occurs mid or late into the game (i.e. in the 1990s and 2000s). This makes the airport a suitable choice for purchase from the national government during this time period and prices are at its lowest during an economic crisis that is set to occur sometime between the years of 1990 and 2000. Although there exist times when additional airports are needed due to the principal airport not being able to meet the demand for slots, construction of second or third airports are best left to the national government as these airports will usually fail to go beyond a status of a level 3 or 4.

Very large capacity planes like the Airbus A380 and the Boeing 747 are generally avoided for most flights to and from Duseeldorf except for stopover flights between two large cities due to the high maintenance costs. When flying to medium and large cities, a plane with a high satisfaction with a medium to large capacity is sufficient. Good examples include the Boeing 777, Airbus A340 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-11. For flights to small sized cities, small capacity planes such as the Boeing 737, Airbus A320 and the McDonnell Douglas MD-80 are recommended.
